In FOM PortfolioBuilder, the term ‘portfolio’ refers to everything a trainee has recorded past and present.
'Folders' represent a discrete collection of events that typically relate to a given time period such as a training level or appraisal year.
When a trainee sets up a FOM PortfolioBuilder account, the trainee specifies what type of portfolio they are creating. This is so that the correct type of folder is created.
Once the portfolio type has been specified (this can be changed at a later date if need be), the trainee should make sure they have a ‘current’ folder. One may already be setup. if not the trainee can add a new training level folder from the portfolio card on their dashboard.
Specialty Training portfolios will typically have one folder per training level which would usually correspond to an ARCP period. When a trainee moves to the next level of training, a new folder should be started at the new level.
The current folder is where all a trainee's activities and assessments will be stored by default. It’s also the default filter when viewing a trainee's activities. By using the filters on the activities page, previous folders can be selected as can a view of everything in one list.
A trainee can move an activity from one folder to another by editing the activity. This goes to a screen where the activity can be moved. It is also possible to assign activities to multiple folders if necessary, but this would not be recommended as best practice.
