The SAIL (Sheffield Assessment Instrument for Letters) is a tool for assessing the quality of letters and trainees can request an assessor complete a SAIL online by making an assessment request in FOM PortfolioBuilder.
Trainees who wish to include the letter pertaining to the SAIL in their ePortfolio, may do so in the following ways:
- Paste the letter, or a summary of the letter, in the 'Patient problem/diagnosis' field on the online SAIL form. This method ensures the assessor has the letter, or a summary of the letter, at the time of completing the assessment.
- Attach the letter to the assessment after the assessment has taken place. Once an assessment has been completed, it is stored as an activity in the 'activities' section of a trainee's portfolio. Trainees can then edit the activity and attach the letter retrospectively.
IMPORTANT: Trainees are reminded of their duty to respect patient confidentiality when including a letter in a SAIL.
