FOM PortfolioBuilder has been designed so that WBAs (Work-place Based Assessments) to be completed and stored online, but some senior trainees who are very near completion of training and already have a substantial portion of forms on paper, may opt to remain with a paper-based portfolio for their next ARCP (Annual Review of Competence Progression).
Those who are new to training may, for the time being, choose to adopt a ‘hybrid’ approach, consisting of a mix of the traditional paper-based forms, and also some electronic submissions (printed as PDFs) presented at their next ‘paper’ ARCP.
Our aim is to eventually have all forms completed as electronic forms only.
The advantage of completing WBAs as an electronic form is that we will, in the future, be able to generate an annual summary of WBAs. The scores for each sub-group of assessment (e.g. CBDs) will be combined, an average score calculated, and a summary displayed online. This will save a great deal of time collating the results each year. This would, of course, not be possible for any paper copies or scanned copies of paper-based forms.
Our recommendation is that trainees start to complete electronic WBAs using the ePortfolio, FOM PortfolioBuilder wherever possible.
Trainees can send out requests for work-place based assessments to assessors. To find out how trainees can do this, read our step-by-step guide: Request an Assessment.
