The case log function is intended as an online version of a log book. It allows trainees to keep notes for the cases they see thus demonstrating they have seen a good mix of patients and complexities.
Curriculum competency mapping is focused on quality of evidence of competence. This requires demonstration of knowledge, skills or attitudes. This is not achieved by logging cases alone.
Once a case log has been created, a trainee can use it as a starting point for a 'follow-up' activity such as a CBD (Case-based Discussion), reflective practice, validated supervision notes or other formative experiences on which feedback has been received.
The follow-up document can then be mapped to a curriculum as evidence of competency.
